Legal Advocacy

Guidance Through Every Step of the Legal Process

Court and legal proceedings can be confusing and scary at times. The good news is that you don’t have to go by yourself. At Brighter Tomorrows, we have trained legal advocates who help people understand the process and get the protection they need.

How We Help

Our advocates can help you with various legal matters, including but not limited to:

  • Documentation completion
  • Orders of Protection
  • Child support
  • Child custody

Additionally, your advocate is there through the process, ready to answer questions and offer reassurance.

Advocates are trained to understand how domestic violence cases move through court. They know the judges, the clerks, and the officers who work there, providing a helping hand and the best possible chance of a positive outcome.

Contacting Us

You do not have to be staying in our shelter to receive this legal help. Many people live at home or with family but still need protection from an abusive partner.

You don’t have to know exactly what to ask for. We will listen and help you decide what kind of approach makes the most sense.

In the Courtroom

Going to court can bring up a lot of emotions, but our advocates are there to make it easier. They meet you when you arrive, stay close, and help you follow what’s being said so you always know what’s going on.

If things get tense, court officers are there to keep order, and your advocate will help you stay calm and focused on why you came, to protect yourself and your children.

Language Access

Advocates speak English and Spanish. If you speak another language, we use a live interpreter line so you can explain your situation clearly.
