Career Opportunities

 Staff Attorney

Brighter Tomorrows, Inc. seeks a full-time staff attorney who will serve survivors of domestic violence in family court proceedings, including orders of protection, custody, visitation, support and related matters. Attorney may also represent litigants in matrimonial cases in Supreme Court.  Duties of the Position: intakes and individual case work, litigation, and education and outreach efforts directed at community members, advocates and service providers. The person hired will also be expected to adhere to program and case handling standards, funder requirements, the highest professional standards, and be available as a resource to staff and access to justice communities.

Qualifications

  • Member in good standing of the New York State Bar;
  • Understanding of the nature and dynamics of domestic violence;
  • Excellent people skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders;
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving low-income persons with prior experience in legal services, or similar program

Bilingual English/Spanish preferred

Housing Specialist

Assist transitional housing clients in locating and securing permanent housing. Provide case-management services including assessment of needs and barriers, budget planning and self- sufficiency skills. Develop relationships with landlords and property managers. Review leases and residential contracts, familiarize clients with rights and responsibilities. Conduct home visits and provide referrals. Transport clients to housing appointments.  Knowledge of social services and housing opportunities and good communication skills needed.  Clean driver’s license required.  BA preferred.

Per Diem House Manager

Under the supervision of Director of Residential Services, the per diem House Manager assists residents with daily tasks and assists in maintaining the physical aspects of the emergency shelter. House managers answer hotline calls as needed, conduct room checks, and enforce rules and regulations of residence.  Successful candidates should have the ability to work evening, weekend, and/or overnight shifts.  High school diploma or equivalent required.  Knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence preferred.  Interested candidates should contact Maria Perry at
