Brighter Tomorrows, Inc. began as a grassroots effort in 1983. A group of concerned women came together with the shared purpose of providing refuge to victims of domestic violence. Three years later Brighter Tomorrows became the first New York State licensed 19-bed domestic violence shelter in Suffolk County, NY. The agency has expanded services to include:
- Group and individual counseling for community members at a non-residential site.
- On-site legal advocacy offered at criminal, family and human trafficking court. In 2007 our bilingual advocacy team secured office space at Touro Law Center in the Public Advocacy Center located in the law school.
- Transitional housing for victims of domestic violence, human trafficking victims, and women recently released from jail.
- A recovery home for women who have completed an inpatient drug and alcohol program.
